Our Big 3 Year Old...Happy Birthday, Kaleb

The long awaited day! At least 2 months before Kaleb's birthday, he would ask when I would make his cake. He helped make Daddy's birthday cake and our friend, Dalene's, cake back in August and September. Plus we had a surprise birthday party here for another one of our friends. So, Kaleb had lots of exposure to birthdays and knew he would also be getting a cake for his birthday. I think he was just fascinated with the fact that the cake was HIS. He really didn't have much interest in eating it.
I must tell about daddy's birthday cake....We had made a surprise cake for daddy and all day we talked about not telling daddy. At one point he said, "but mommy, I need to tell daddy." Kaleb, after his nap, found daddy mowing the lawn....he patiently waited until daddy finished and the first words out of his mouth...(not, "hi daddy") "mommy made you a birthday cake." So, no secrets around this household!
Kaleb's birthday cake wasn't made until the day after when we actually had his party with the family. He was excited about the gifts I gave him throughout the day on his birthday but he was more concerned about when he was going to get his cake. Kaleb doesn't know much about a 'decorative' cake and because time didn't permit I didn't make an extravagant cake...he was very happy with his German chocolate cake as was the whole rest of the family! The gifts from the family where incredible....mommy and daddy's gifts should be returned!!! =)
